Durham Remodeling was built on hard work, mentorship, and a passion for helping homeowners bring their spaces back to life.

Our story begins in 1973, but the foundation was laid years earlier when Carl Durham Sr. was just a teenager looking for a way to earn and save money. He began working for Clifford and Veva White, owners of White’s Our Own Hardware Store in Dows, Iowa. It was there that Carl was introduced to the world of home repair and remodeling.

Working side by side with Clifford White, Carl didn’t just learn how to fix things—he learned how to serve people. Together, they would take calls from local homeowners, stepping in to solve problems, restore homes, and build trust within the community. Under Clifford’s mentorship—who would later become Carl’s father-in-law—Carl developed the skills, work ethic, and values that would shape the future of Durham Remodeling.

Fast forward, Carl Sr. and his wife Connie built a life together in Rock Island, Illinois, raising their three children: Carl Jr., Clifford, and Crystal. During this time, Carl Sr. worked for John Deere, while Connie worked for the Rock Island/Milan School District. Through her work, Connie connected with many individuals in need of home repairs—creating the perfect opportunity for Carl Sr. to put his skills to work and earn extra income while supporting their growing family.

As word spread, the demand for repairs grew quickly. What began as side work and a young man’s determination soon became something much bigger. Seeing the need in the community, Carl Sr. expanded his efforts and officially established Durham Remodeling & Repair.

What started as mentorship under Clifford and Veva White grew into a legacy—one that has far exceeded what anyone could have imagined. Carl Sr. took everything he learned and built a business that not only serves homeowners but also creates opportunities for others, providing jobs and supporting the local community.

Durham Remodeling has been locally owned and operated from the very beginning. Today, the company is proudly owned by Carl Durham Jr., who has continued to grow the business while staying true to its roots. With several family members involved in day-to-day operations, we remain one of the few construction companies in Rock Island that is completely family owned and operated.

We are proud of where we come from, grateful for those who helped shape our journey, and committed to continuing to serve our community for years to come.
